About the courses
STCW Basic Safety Training (A-VI/1)
The STCW Basic Safety Training course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills every seafarer must have before going to sea. It includes:
-
Personal Survival Techniques (A-VI/1-1) – survival skills for emergencies at sea, including abandonment and liferaft use.
-
Fire Prevention and Firefighting (A-VI/1-2) – understanding and managing fire risks onboard through hands-on firefighting exercises. The course includes practical exercises and results in an unrestricted STCW FPFF certificate.
-
Elementary First Aid (A-VI/1-3) – learning how to provide immediate and effective medical assistance.
-
Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (A-VI/1-4) – promoting safe working practices and teamwork in an international maritime environment.
This training ensures all seafarers can respond effectively to emergencies and live safely onboard.
STCW Crowd Management (A-V/2-1) & Crisis Management and Human Behavior (A-V/2-3)
Onboard passenger vessels, crew members must be prepared to manage and assist large groups of people during emergencies.
These courses teach participants to:
-
Safely control and direct passenger movements during evacuation or emergencies.
-
Communicate effectively with passengers under stress.
-
Maintain calm leadership and demonstrate appropriate behavior in crisis situations.
-
Understand crowd psychology and manage diverse passenger needs.
Both Crowd Management (A-V/2-1) and Crisis Management & Human Behavior (A-V/2-3) are mandatory for anyone serving on ships carrying more than twelve passengers.
STCW Proficiency in Security Awareness (A-VI/6-1)
The Proficiency in Security Awareness course introduces the essential principles of maritime security and anti-piracy awareness. It ensures all seafarers understand how to recognize and respond to potential security threats onboard or ashore.
Training topics include:
-
The importance of ship security and international security regulations (ISPS Code).
-
Identifying security risks and suspicious behaviour.
-
Maintaining vigilance and personal safety onboard.
-
Understanding security levels and reporting procedures.
This certificate is required for all seafarers without designated security duties and is particularly important for those entering the cruise industry, where passenger and vessel security is a top priority. In some cases, STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties for Cruise Ships might be required.
