RYA Day Skipper course gives hands-on experience in navigation, pilotage, seamanship, and boat handling. Upon completion of the course, candidates can skipper a motor cruiser in familiar waters by day. The Day Skipper Practical course is a further step after RYA Day Skipper Theory which is now available online. The two courses combined can be commercially endorsed to use the Day Skipper license for commercial purposes.

Pre-requisites
1. Candidates must be at least 18 years old to take the course.
2. Candidates must have two days of practical experience on a motor cruiser and hold Powerboat Level 2 license.
3. We strongly recommend to complete the online RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship course before attending RYA Day Skipper Practical. The Essential Navigation course provides with the basic knowledge of buoyage, navigation, anchoring, safety, tides etc.
4. If you take the RYA Day Skipper Practical course to obtain your license for commercial purposes, you are required to complete the RYA Day Skipper Theory course as well. This course can be taken both online and offline.

The RYA Day Skipper Practical course is highly recommended to those candidates who plan to work towards their Yachtmaster Offshore qualification.
Note: The RYA Day Skipper license is valid for motor vessels of up to 24 meters.
IMPORTANT: This course will only run with a minimum of 3 candidates.
Commercial Endorsement
A commercial endorsement allows your RYA Day Skipper Motor Cruising certificate to be used professionally on eligible commercial vessels operating under the MCA Codes of Practice. Once commercially endorsed, the qualification can be used as a Master qualification for daylight operations in favourable weather, including Area Category 4 – up to 20 nautical miles from a safe haven.
To obtain the endorsement, candidates must meet the RYA’s additional professional requirements, including an approved medical certificate, Sea Survival or STCW PST, Marine Radio SRC, Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR) and an accepted shorebased theory certificate (Day Skipper Theory). Where the shorebased course has been completed online, the final examination must still be invigilated in person for it to be accepted for a Commercial Endorsement.
The endorsement does not remove the operating limitations of the Day Skipper qualification, and acceptance on non-UK flagged vessels remains subject to the relevant Flag State requirements.
