Meet Faith, our awesome G.U.E.S.T program trainer

Hello Faith, long time no see! Thanks for popping in to see us at Seascope. How are you ?

Hi Alyson, I’m fantastic thanks. Glad to be here!

- Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your life at present?

I am a typical Australian girl living in Antibes, where l have been based for the last 20 years. I had worked on yachts for 10 years before I met my wonderful husband and had 2 gorgeous children with him. As a mother, I was land-based but continued working together with my husband running a popular bar/restaurant in the centre of Antibes.

- What made you interested in becoming a G.U.E.S.T program trainer for Seascope France?

I've been friends with Seascope France team for quite a while. It so happened that one day they were discussing a yacht interior training program called G.U.E.S.T, and it really sounded right up my street. I was a chief stewardess on yachts, and I've got plenty of knowledge and experience to share and run a yacht stewardess training course in Antibes.

In 2022, I received accreditation for Superyacht Interior Training, and we launched the course. Since then, I love teaching and training people who search yacht stewardess jobs.

One of the things I love about yachting is that there are always students from different walks of life. Everyone has a different story to tell; however, one thing they have in common is the desire to get their first job on board and set off on their yachting career journey!

- Can you explain why G.U.E.S.T course is important for aspiring stewardesses?

The G.U.E.S.T course gives students basic skills and confidence to step into their first yacht stewardess role. Standards on yachts are like none other! When I got my first junior stewardess job, I remember thinking 'Everything's spotless. What is there to do?"

But then... There were a lot of questions. What is the good product to clean marble? How do I wash guest's silk dress? How do I make a Negroni? How do I make and serve coffee? What is a synchronised service? How do I unpack guests' clothes from their suitcase?

- Going back to your life on yachts. What did/do you love about yachting?

There are so many aspects to yachting that I did love and still do.

I actually just did a season onboard a busy charter boat this summer, and I loved it! I left my husband and two children for the summer, and I set sail again after several years of being out of the yachting world!

Initially l got into yachting industry to travel. Working on yachts is a great way to travel and earn money at the same time. Crew are from different countries and backgrounds, but at the end of the day it is like one big family onboard. I am a people’s person and a people pleaser,  so superyacht stewardess feels like a wonderful job for me!

- Can you share one of your best memories from your experience working on yachts?

You want just one memory?! Seriously!  Wow, give me a minute so l can narrow it down to just one.

On one boat I had a Second Stew role, and I had to go to Paris with the Chief Stew to offer help in the lead up to the wedding of our Boss's daughter. So, off we set to Paris thinking we would be doing regular stewardess duties. However, when we arrived, much to my delight and surprise, I was required to assist the bride, oversee guest bookings at the hotel spa and even represent the family at some of the oldest and finest jewellery houses in the world.  I had millions of euros worth of jewellery draped over me during these visits (I lived like an owner for a very short time…..lol!).

During this work trip to Paris I even got to hang out with Kylie Minogue, my childhood idol! Memories I'll keep forever !

Wow Faith! What an experience! I love your enthusiasm for yachting and the work you are doing! Thank you for the chat!
